Ice-T Tells Singer Songwriter Aimee Mann Off On Twitter
Regarded as one of the west coast’s original gangsters of rap music, Ice-T went in on Grammy Award-winning Rock singer Aimee Mann for dissing his career as an actor yesterday. Mann (@AimeeMann), who is also into acting, wrote on Twitter, “There is no reason anyone should have cast Ice T in a television show,” referring to the rapper’s ongoing role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola.
Ice-T (@FinalLevel) responded to the singer tweeting, “Oh shit! FLTG this may be time for a DRIVE BY.. Some one tell who is this bitch? Should I handle this or is it Drive by time??” He later updated his Twitter status with “Hey [Aimee Mann] stop worrying bout my acting bitch, and worry about your WACK ass music. In the mean time.. Eat a hot bowl of Dicks! Ice T.” The singer subsequently apologized to Ice T, who admits, “I’m just having fun on Twitter.”
Ice-T, whose born name is Tracy Morrow, has appeared in a number of movies and television shows for over 20 years, and received an MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance as Scotty in the 1991 flick New Jack City.
The rapper slash actor is rumored to have a role in an upcoming film titled Santorini Blue, a love story where Ice-T plays a doctor. Ice-T is also featured in Sounds Like a Revolution, a 2010 documentary about activist musicians.
Aimee Mann is a 25-year veteran, known for hits such as 1985’s “Voices Carry” with her then-band Til’ Tuesday. She would later receive an Academy Award Nomination, as well as a Grammy Award nomination for her song “Save Me” and her work on the Magnolia film soundtrack. That work is said to have been key in inspiring Kanye West to work with producer Jon Brion on his sophomore album Late Registration.
DJ Premier On Kanye’s New Album: ‘Strictly Hard Beats And Rhymes’
In a recent interview with The Red Bulletin, legendary Hip Hop producer DJ Premier spoke briefly on Kanye’s career, as well as his highly-anticipated fifth album.
Preme noted how Kanye’s emphasis on sampling brought the production technique back to the forefront at a time when synth-laden soundscapes were the norm. “Well, first of all, if you look at all of Kanye West’s output, he actually did a lot to bring back sampling and make it cool again, even though he’s more of a mainstream artist.”
Premier also provided insight on Ye’s new album, revealing that the Chicago producer/emcee would be taking a back-to-basics approach – presumably typical of his debut, College Dropout. “his new album is strictly hard beats and rhymes. He’s totally done with electro. You’re gonna be surprised what you hear.”
This fuels already rampant speculation regarding Kanye’s project, thought to be titled Good Ass Job, as it was reported recently that Q-Tip, RZA and Pete Rock might all be contributors to the project.
FUSE Network Makes Today A "Tupac Takeover"
Beginning at 11am EST today, FUSE will unveil their “Tupac Takeover.” The New York-based network will honor the iconic emcee, actor and humanitarian who has been dead almost 15 years.
The television lineup will begin with music video compilations such as The 2Pac Chronicles and Loaded: 2Pac. The afternoon will follow with 2004’s Tupac Vs., which features commentary by Tupac’s former manager Leila Steinberg and author/scholar Michael Eric Dyson. That will be followed by Tupac Shakur: Before I Wake, the film adaptation executive produced by Frank Alexander, Shakur’s bodyguard in the last year of his life. The film pulls extensively from Alexander’s book Got Your Back, and controversially makes allegations about the lack of security and likely motives in Tupac’s murder.
The programming will conclude Ernest R. Dickerson’s 1992 film Juice. The movie features Tupac playing the role of “Bishop,” the brazen villain. The film, in addition to its Hip Hop soundtrack, features cameo appearances from EPMD, Queen Latifah, Treach, Special Ed and Ed Lover.
Game’s "R.E.D." Album Set To Release June 15
After announcements that Game’s fourth official major label album, R.E.D. would release as early as February of this year, the Compton emcee’s reunion project with Aftermath Records has delayed twice. This weekend, Rap-Up.com announced that The Black Wall Street founder will release the project on June 15.
As of right now, that puts Drake and Game in competition of each other, though neither artist has spoken on the matter yet. At present, Game’s album, backed by the Cool & Dre single, “Shake”
, features confirmed production from Pharrell, Dr. Dre and others.
Nicki Minaj Fires Waka Flocka’s Mother As Her Manager
Young Money’s first lady Nicki Minaj has fired her manager Debra Antney, who is also the mother of rapper Waka Flocka Flame.
According to Waka Flocka’s mother, the news came when she received a series of letters, banning her from doing business with Minaj. “I received a letter, which was [a] suspension,” said Antney in a recent interview. “The next letter that came in was a cease and desist in doing all business with Nicki Minaj from Nicki’s attorney.”
Unbeknownst to Antney as to why she had been fired, admits that she holds no grudges regardless of the rapper’s decision. “I love Nicki. I wish her the most success. It’s not about the music, she’s like one of my children,” she continued, “I wish her no harm, only much success.”
Debra Antney is currently Gucci Mane’s manager and CEO of So Icey/Mizay Entertainment, an Asylum/Warner Bros affiliate.
Aside from firing her manager, Nicki Minaj has also recently cancelled her leg of the nationwide tour with Rihanna. She recently issued an apology on Twitter, “Barbz I’m sorry 2 say I will not be going out on RiRi’s tour. I’ve decided 2 use that time 4 the completion of my album. Hope u understand.” There is currently no release date or title to accompany her album.
